Lee Clark has resigned as Hartlepool United head coach with immediate effect following the club's 3-1 home defeat by Worthing on Saturday.
The loss was Hartlepool's third consecutive defeat and their sixth in seven matches. The run of poor form pushed Pools down to 18th in the National League before the afternoon kick-offs.
Clark told BBC Radio Tees: "I resign from my position with immediate effect. I wanted to give this club and the fans something to be proud of, what they deserve, but I haven't been able to do that unfortunately."
He added: "I was excited to take the job and I wanted to be the man to get them back to where they need to be and deserve to be, but it hasn't worked out."
Clark's Tenure
Clark took over at Victoria Park in the summer after a short spell with Rotherham United at the end of the previous season. During his nine National League games with Hartlepool, he won three matches.
The former Newcastle, Sunderland and Fulham player had previously managed Huddersfield Town and Birmingham City.
Fans called for his departure during Saturday's game as the club's poor form continued.
Club Context
Hartlepool United was taken over in January by American businessman Landon Smith. The club is aiming to end their four-year stay in the National League.
Clark's resignation means Pools will now search for their ninth permanent manager or head coach during this period outside the English Football League.
