Hartlepool Borough Council has appointed Emma Stonehouse to the role of Engagement Officer (Waste and Recycling), strengthening the authority's commitment to increasing recycling rates across the borough.
Stonehouse will work directly with residents, community groups and schools to raise awareness of recycling and waste reduction. Her responsibilities include providing practical advice, sharing information, addressing misconceptions and helping households understand how to recycle correctly.
Focus on Schools and Community Engagement
Part of Stonehouse's role involves visiting local schools to engage with pupils and inspire the next generation to develop environmentally-friendly habits. She is also educating residents about the impact of littering and fly-tipping on local communities and the environment.
Speaking ahead of Recycle Week (14-20 September), Stonehouse said: "I have a passion for anything green and environmental and I want to make a difference. I want to get the information out there and help people understand why recycling is so important. I'll be out in the community helping people recycle correctly and doing my best to make sure Hartlepool is topping the charts when it comes to recycling."

Increasing recycling rates and reducing waste are key priorities for the Council, so her enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for environmental issues make her the perfect person to help lead that effort."
