Self-taught artist Stanley Davison's decade of work goes on show at Hartlepool Art Gallery Hartlepool Art Gallery is hosting a major exhibition of paintings by local artist Stanley Davison, running until Saturday 10 October. The show, titled 'Stanley Davison: A Decade in Paint', features work created over the last ten years by the self-taught artist, who began painting at age ten after receiving his first set of paints as a gift. Davison's paintings draw heavily on Hartlepool's landmarks and people, including scenes of the Fish Sands, the old cemetery on the Headland, Steetley Pier and the harbour. Several works reimagine classic paintings by renowned artists such as Caravaggio, Velázquez and Cézanne, repositioning them within contemporary Hartlepool settings. A distinctive feature of his work is the use of artists' mannequins and shop-window figures in place of human subjects. All paintings on display are for sale, with interest-free credit available through the Own Art scheme. Entry to the exhibition is free, and Hartlepool Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
