Hartlepool Borough Council is supporting Counter Terrorism Policing's Summer Vigilance Campaign, which encourages residents to remain alert while attending festivals, major events, holidays and leisure activities over the summer months.
The campaign recognises that large gatherings and busy public spaces can attract hostile activity. Public awareness is identified as an important part of keeping communities safe.
Who is being encouraged to act
Event organisers, venues, transport hubs and businesses are being asked to make clear and consistent vigilance messaging a key part of their planning. Promoting the campaign and adopting security-minded communications can provide an additional layer of protective security, helping to deter hostile activity and increase public awareness.
Council's commitment
The Council's backing of the campaign reflects its ongoing commitment to the Government's Prevent programme, which aims to stop people from becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
